Pendleton AICF Hidatsa Earth Blanke Design
Inspired by a 1908 photograph taken by historic photographer Edward S. Curtis, the geometric design elements embody earth and sky. The grey step pattern at the blanket's center represents mountains. Grey and white bands at both ends express patterns of wheat, grass and seed. Each cross symbolizes the four directions and a beginning.
